Justin Verlander Aims for Final Appearance with Detroit Tigers
Justin Verlander is striving for a final appearance with the Detroit Tigers in the 2026 season, which was intended to be a fitting conclusion to his career.
He signed a one-year contract worth over $7.5 million to return to the team where he spent 12.5 seasons. However, injuries have hindered his season, limiting him to one start where he allowed five runs in 3.2 innings before landing on the Injured List due to hip inflammation and later suffering a hamstring pull.
Despite these challenges, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch reported that Verlander recently showed improved performance in a bullpen session. The team is hopeful he can participate in a two-day celebration of his career at the season's end, pending his recovery progress.
