Kalyn Ponga to Undergo Surgery After Injury in Rugby League World Cup Opener
Kalyn Ponga, the New Zealand full-back, is scheduled to have surgery on a broken forearm following an injury sustained during the Rugby League World Cup opener against Australia on Thursday.
Ponga played for approximately 20 minutes after the injury, which occurred during a tackle with Cameron Munster, and managed to score two tries before leaving the field in the 70th minute. Despite the injury, New Zealand has not ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament, although his chances of returning for the final on November 15 are slim.
New Zealand team doctor Greg Macleod expressed support for Ponga as he prepares for surgery, confirming that he will remain with the team during recovery. In Ponga's absence, Keano Kini from the Gold Coast Titans will take his place for the upcoming matches against the Cook Islands and Fiji.
