Kansas City Royals Sign Tony Gonsolin Amid Injury Concerns

The Kansas City Royals have signed pitcher Tony Gonsolin to a contract for the remainder of the 2026 season, which includes a team option for 2027. Following the signing, Gonsolin was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Gonsolin has faced significant injury challenges since the 2022 season, including a sprained left ankle, forearm inflammation, and Tommy John surgery in August 2023, which sidelined him for the entire 2024 season. Although he returned to health in 2025, he sustained a back injury and underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in August.

During his earlier career, Gonsolin was a standout pitcher, achieving a 2.51 ERA and a 0.987 WHIP from 2019 to 2022, and earning an All-Star selection in 2022. The Royals are hopeful that Gonsolin can regain his form, especially as their rotation for 2027 currently has limited established options.
