Karl-Anthony Towns Disappointed by Knicks' Pause on Contract Extension Talks
Karl-Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks has expressed his disappointment following the team's decision to pause contract extension negotiations just before the 2026-27 season begins.
The Knicks had reportedly proposed a four-year, $200 million extension, while Towns was eligible for a larger extension worth $276 million. The organization announced on Friday that it would halt discussions with all extension-eligible players to focus on preparing for the upcoming season.
Towns, who is set to earn $57 million this season as part of a four-year, $220 million contract, acknowledged the impact of the announcement on him but emphasized the importance of concentrating on winning another championship. He averaged 20.1 points and 11.9 rebounds during the regular season last year and is entering his third season with the Knicks after nine years with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
