Kate Koval Leaves LSU Basketball Team After Signing of Russian Player
Kate Koval, a Ukrainian basketball player, has left Louisiana State University's (LSU) basketball team following the signing of Russian player Anna Minaeva. Koval, who averaged 8.3 points per game last season, announced her departure after one season, citing personal reasons related to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Koval expressed that her decision was influenced by her father's service in the Ukrainian military and the personal impact of the war on her life. She highlighted the loss of friends and the destruction of her childhood environment due to the conflict. Koval stated that the situation made her reconsider her place at LSU.
Although Koval was expected to be the starting center for the upcoming season and has two years of collegiate eligibility left, she is currently unable to transfer due to the closure of the transfer portal. She hopes the NCAA will consider her circumstances and allow her to join another university for the next season.
