Katie Boulter Voices Concerns Over Cannabis Smell at US Open
Katie Boulter, the British number one, has raised concerns about the smell of cannabis affecting her performance at the US Open. The tournament, taking place at Flushing Meadows in New York, has seen players complain about the odor, which drifts from nearby Corona Park.
Despite cannabis being legal for adults in New York, smoking is prohibited on the tournament grounds. Boulter noted that the smell is particularly noticeable on the practice courts and has previously distracted other players, including Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. She emphasized that such distractions can disrupt focus during matches.
The issue of cannabis odor has been ongoing at the US Open, with other players like Nick Kyrgios and Maria Sakkari also commenting on it in past tournaments. The United States Tennis Association stated that they collaborate with local authorities to minimize smoking near the venue, although they cannot control activities outside the grounds.
