Kayla Cross Eliminated, Leaving Leylah Fernandez as Sole Canadian in National Bank Open

In the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, Kayla Cross from London, Ontario, was defeated by Ann Li of the U.S. with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-3 during a second-round match on Wednesday.

This loss means that Leylah Fernandez is now the only Canadian woman left in the singles competition. Fernandez, seeded No. 30, is set to compete against Renata Zarazua of Mexico later on Wednesday night after receiving a bye in the first round.

Cross, 21, had previously achieved her first tour-level victory against Katie Boulter in the first round. The day featured numerous matches, including those of top seeds such as Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula.
