Kazakhstan's President Meets FIDE President to Discuss Chess Development
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, held a meeting with Timur Turlov, the newly elected President of FIDE, to discuss the future of chess in Kazakhstan.
During their discussion, they focused on the development of chess within the country, Kazakhstan's increasing prominence in the international chess arena, and potential collaborations between FIDE and the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.
President Tokayev emphasized the significance of chess in fostering intellectual growth among youth and noted the achievements of the Kazakh chess school, including a silver medal at the recent FIDE Chess Olympiad. He highlighted that over 278,000 individuals in Kazakhstan are currently engaged in chess, showcasing its rapid growth.
Both leaders agreed on the necessity of enhancing cooperation between the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and FIDE, particularly in educational initiatives and hosting international chess events. Turlov expressed that Kazakhstan's experience could serve as a model for other nations, illustrating how strategic support and investment can yield positive outcomes in chess development.
The meeting concluded with Tokayev wishing Turlov success in his new role.
