Keelon Russell Named Starting Quarterback for Alabama

Alabama's football team has selected sophomore Keelon Russell as its starting quarterback, a decision announced on Saturday.

During fall camp, Russell competed against senior Austin Mack for the position. Head coach Kalen DeBoer informed the team of Russell's selection two weeks ahead of their season opener against East Carolina.

Russell previously played in two games in 2025, achieving 143 yards and two touchdowns before redshirting. He was a highly regarded five-star recruit and the second-ranked quarterback in his class. Mack will serve as the backup after completing 24 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns last season.
