Keelon Russell Shines in First Start for Alabama Against East Carolina
In his first collegiate start, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell delivered an impressive performance, leading his team to a 48-10 victory over the East Carolina Pirates. Russell, a sophomore and five-star recruit from the class of 2025, recorded 335 total yards and one touchdown during the game.
Russell completed 17 of 29 passes for 249 yards and added 86 rushing yards on 13 carries. He initiated scoring drives on all five of his first-half possessions, including four touchdowns, following an initial field goal. Notably, he became the first Alabama quarterback since Jalen Milroe in 2024 to achieve at least 175 passing yards and 50 rushing yards in a single half.
His performance significantly improved Alabama's rushing attack, which averaged only 104.1 yards per game last season. The team finished with 227 rushing yards, marking their highest total against FBS competition since November 2024. After the game, Russell took responsibility for the team's operational errors, indicating his commitment to improvement as he continues to develop in his role.
