Kentucky Wildcats Football Preview for 2026
The Kentucky Wildcats football team is preparing for the 2026 season with a new head coach, Will Stein, following the dismissal of Mark Stoops after 13 years. Stein, previously the offensive coordinator at Oregon, has significantly revamped the roster by bringing in 31 transfers, including 13 projected starters.
Among the key additions are four new starters on the offensive line, highlighted by center Coleton Price from Baylor, who is recognized as one of the top centers in the nation. The defensive line also retains three starters, led by Tavion Gadson, noted for his strong performance last season.
However, the team faces uncertainties in the offensive backfield, with former Notre Dame backup Kenny Minchey stepping in as quarterback. He will be supported by transfer running backs CJ Baxter and Jovantae Barnes, both of whom have faced injury challenges. Despite the talent, the effectiveness of the backfield and Minchey's ability to perform against SEC defenses remain to be seen, as the Wildcats aim to improve after two consecutive losing seasons.
