Ketel Marte Placed on Restricted List by Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Monday night that second baseman Ketel Marte has been placed on the restricted list after failing to appear at Fenway Park for a game against the Boston Red Sox.
In response to Marte's absence, the team recalled infielder Jose Fernandez from Triple-A. Marte is reportedly in good health, but teams can place players on the restricted list for personal or non-baseball reasons, which results in the player not being paid or accruing MLB service time.
This decision comes nearly a year after Marte apologized for a previous absence related to a burglary at his home. Although he has not performed at his usual All-Star level in 2026, he has still contributed positively to the Diamondbacks, who are in contention for a playoff spot.
