Kevin Gausman Impresses in Cubs Debut with Strong Performance Against Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kevin Gausman made his debut for the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, pitching seven innings in a 6-4 win against the Kansas City Royals. Acquired from the Blue Jays last weekend, Gausman was relieved to not face his former team in his first outing.

During the game, Gausman allowed two runs on four hits, walked one batter, and struck out four. He faced some challenges early on, including a walk to Carter Jensen and a run driven in by Isaac Collins in the first inning. However, he settled into a rhythm, retiring 12 of the next 13 batters he faced.

Despite a scare from a line drive that hit his ankle in the first inning, Gausman continued to perform well. His strong outing was crucial for the Cubs, especially as they prepare for the debut of another pitcher, Clay Holmes, who is returning from injury.
