Kevin Kisner Calls for Changes to PGA Tour Signature Events
Kevin Kisner has raised concerns about the format of PGA Tour Signature Events, suggesting that they should include larger fields and a cut to improve competition. His comments come in light of Scottie Scheffler's recent success at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which featured a 70-player, no-cut format.
Kisner expressed his belief that the current structure does not serve the best interests of the Tour, arguing that a cut would create more drama and align with the meritocratic foundation of the PGA Tour. He noted that while TV ratings for these events have increased, he attributes this growth to the overall popularity of golf rather than the smaller fields.
The PGA Tour has eight Signature Events, with players qualifying based on their performance in previous seasons. However, the Tour plans to implement a two-tier system starting in 2028, which may limit Kisner's proposal for 125-player fields at these events. The effectiveness of this new structure in enhancing viewer engagement remains to be seen.
