Kevin Walters Advocates for NRL-Super League Partnership
Kevin Walters, who will become the head coach of St Helens after the World Cup, has expressed his support for a partnership between the National Rugby League (NRL) and the Super League. He believes that collaboration could be advantageous for both leagues.
Despite Super League clubs recently rejecting a £35 million investment offer from the Australian Rugby League Commission, discussions about a potential partnership have been ongoing. Walters noted that while Super League may not need assistance, a partnership could enhance both competitions, especially given the presence of many Australian and New Zealand players in the Super League.
In July, the NRL secured a new seven-year broadcast deal worth approximately £400 million annually. Walters highlighted that the financial success of the NRL could positively influence the Super League. He also mentioned that he aims to retain top talent in the Super League and believes that improving financial rewards could help achieve this goal.
