Key Matchups to Watch in Week 8 of the 2026 College Football Season

The college football season continues into Week 8, following a tumultuous Week 7 filled with upsets. This week features only two games with ranked opponents, but the stakes remain high for prospects aiming to improve their draft status for the 2027 NFL Draft.

A spotlight is on quarterback LaNorris Sellers from South Carolina, who has recently shown improvement by throwing six touchdowns without an interception in his last two games. He will face a formidable Tennessee defense that recently dominated Alabama, presenting a significant challenge for Sellers.

In another notable matchup, Iowa will play Minnesota, showcasing top prospects in the trenches. Iowa's Trevor Lauck and Kade Pieper are recognized for their strong offensive line performance, while Minnesota's Anthony Smith is projected as a consistent Day 2 pick. Additionally, cornerback Jalen Mayo from Houston is expected to return from injury for a game against 10th-ranked Utah, where he could enhance his draft stock with a strong performance.
