Kimi Antonelli Claims Pole Position for US Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli achieved pole position for the United States Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend in Austin, where he has a chance to secure his first Formula 1 world title.
The Mercedes driver outpaced Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 0.179 seconds, with Isack Hadjar finishing third, followed by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli expressed joy at his first pole since the Belgian Grand Prix in July.
To clinch the championship, Antonelli must win the race while ensuring Hamilton finishes below fourth and Russell below eighth. Hamilton qualified fifth, and Russell will start sixth. Antonelli's pole position was unexpected, given Ferrari's strong performance in practice sessions. Verstappen noted issues with grip during the final qualifying session, while Leclerc and Russell faced challenges in Q3.
