Kimi Antonelli Secures Surprise Pole at US Grand Prix
Kimi Antonelli claimed an unexpected pole position on Saturday for the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, positioning himself to potentially secure the season title with a win.
The 20-year-old Mercedes driver outpaced Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who had previously won the last two races from pole. Isack Hadjar from Red Bull will start in third, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, a strong contender for pole, will begin in fourth.
Antonelli is aiming for his ninth victory of the season and has a chance to clinch the championship if he wins, George Russell finishes ninth or lower, and Lewis Hamilton does not place in the top four. Hamilton will start fourth, with Russell in sixth. Antonelli currently leads Russell by 102 points and Hamilton by 111 with six races remaining in the season.
