King Oyo of Tooro Kingdom Passes Away at 34
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, recognized as the world's youngest monarch, has died at the age of 34, according to an announcement from his prime minister.
Oyo ascended to the throne of the Tooro kingdom in western Uganda at the age of three in 1995 following his father's death. Although the cause of death was not disclosed, reports indicated he had been critically ill and was receiving treatment in the United States.
The Tooro kingdom, which operates under a hereditary monarchy, has expressed deep sorrow over the king's passing. Oyo was respected for his advocacy on issues such as youth empowerment and education. His legacy will be honored with a planned tree-planting initiative during the mourning period. Various organizations and individuals, including the Buganda Kingdom and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, have extended their condolences and paid tribute to his contributions.
