Kirk Cousins Expected to Start for Raiders in Week One

Kirk Cousins, the quarterback for the Raiders, showcased his skills by completing five of six passes and throwing a touchdown during the preseason opener on Thursday night. Head coach Klint Kubiak expressed confidence in Cousins, suggesting he is expected to start in Week One.

While Kubiak did not officially name Cousins as the starter, he noted that Cousins has consistently worked with the first string and has not done anything to jeopardize his position. Kubiak mentioned that Cousins has had a solid training camp, emphasizing that it is his job to lose.

First overall pick Fernando Mendoza also had a notable performance, throwing a touchdown and completing 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards. However, Kubiak pointed out that Mendoza still needs improvement, particularly in avoiding unnecessary sacks. The Raiders view Mendoza as a potential franchise quarterback for the future, but for the immediate season opener against the Dolphins on September 13, Cousins remains the primary choice.
