Kirk Cousins Named Raiders Starting Quarterback for Week 1

The Las Vegas Raiders have officially announced that Kirk Cousins will be their starting quarterback for the upcoming season opener against Miami. This decision follows the team's selection of Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Cousins, who previously played for Atlanta, finished his time there with a record of 12-10, accumulating 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions over two seasons. Despite his experience, he did not meet expectations during his four-year, $180 million contract. As he enters his 15th season at age 38, Cousins is expected to serve as a mentor to Mendoza, with indications from Raiders general manager John Spytek that Mendoza may see playing time sooner rather than later.
