Klay Thompson Joins the Heat with Flexible Contract

Klay Thompson has officially joined the Miami Heat after signing a two-year contract following his buyout from the Mavericks. His deal, which begins with a salary of $5.6 million, is structured to provide the team with additional roster flexibility.

The contract allows the Heat to sign two veteran minimum contracts for their 14th and 15th roster spots while staying under the first apron hard cap, which was reached due to the trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. If Thompson's starting salary had been higher, the team would have only been able to add one more veteran player.

Nick Richards is a strong candidate for the 14th roster spot, although his deal may not be fully guaranteed. The Heat are likely to keep the 15th spot open for now as they assess their needs. Team president Pat Riley praised Thompson's all-around skills and expressed gratitude for his decision to join the Heat in their championship pursuit.
