Klint Kubiak Confirms Kirk Cousins as Raiders' Starting QB After Mendoza's Debut

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak has reaffirmed that veteran Kirk Cousins is set to be the starting quarterback for Week 1, following rookie Fernando Mendoza's debut in a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, which ended in a 27-14 loss for the Raiders.

During the game, Cousins completed five of six passes for 50 yards and a touchdown, while Mendoza went 10-of-16 for 97 yards and also threw a touchdown. Despite Mendoza's solid performance, Kubiak noted that he displayed typical rookie challenges and emphasized that Cousins has been receiving the majority of practice reps.

Mendoza acknowledged the need for improvement after the game, particularly in adapting to the speed of NFL defenses. He expressed his intention to review game film to enhance his performance. The rookie will have another chance to showcase his skills when the Raiders face the Houston Texans on August 20.
