Klint Kubiak Delays Naming Starting QB for Week 1
Klint Kubiak, the first-year head coach of the Raiders, has not confirmed Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback for Week 1, despite his position being described as Cousins' to lose.
Following a joint practice and preseason game against the Texans, Kubiak stated that naming a starter prematurely does not benefit the team. He noted the performance of rookie Fernando Mendoza, who played the entire first half, completing 8 of 15 passes for 86 yards with one interception.
Kubiak expressed satisfaction with Mendoza's performance on critical downs, highlighting areas for improvement. He acknowledged the challenges Mendoza faces in gaining experience if he is not named the starter, but emphasized the coaching staff's commitment to his development through additional practice and support.
