Knicks Achieve First Victory of the Season Against Pistons
The New York Knicks claimed their first victory of the season by defeating the Detroit Pistons 111-97 on Tuesday night, preventing what would have been only the second 0-4 start for a defending champion in NBA history.
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 27 points and 20 rebounds, while Jalen Brunson contributed 23 points, overcoming earlier shooting struggles. The Knicks dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Pistons 37-13, which helped them establish a 25-point lead.
The Pistons, who were looking for their first 4-0 start since the 2018-19 season, had Cade Cunningham scoring 19 points, along with Paul Reed's 22 points in place of the injured Jalen Duren. The Knicks' victory marked their first win since the NBA Finals, breaking a streak of three consecutive losses to start the season.
