Knicks Explore Roster Openings Following Departures

As of Sunday morning, the New York Knicks, the reigning champions, have 13 players under guaranteed contracts and are approximately $3.27 million below the second tax apron.

Owner James Dolan previously stated that the team would not exceed the second apron for the 2026/27 season. Following this, center Mitchell Robinson departed for the Boston Celtics, signing a three-year deal worth $47.4 million. Additionally, third-string center Ariel Hukporti signed with the Philadelphia 76ers for one year at $3.4 million.

In response to these losses, the Knicks signed veteran center Andre Drummond to a one-year minimum-salary contract, with a cap hit of $2.45 million. The team is actively seeking additional depth at center and has shown interest in several young players. They also have an unsigned draft pick, Tyler Nickel, who may either sign a rookie contract or return to college. The Knicks currently hold all three of their two-way roster spots open, presenting further opportunities to enhance their frontcourt.
