Knowsley Council Launches Halloween Costume Swap Initiative
Knowsley Council has initiated a Halloween costume swap shop to encourage parents to exchange unwanted children's costumes instead of discarding them. This program coincides with the half-term holiday and aims to minimize waste associated with Halloween celebrations.
The council noted that a significant number of families, approximately 90%, purchase new costumes for Halloween, with around 40% of these costumes being worn only once. Parents can drop off costumes at designated recycling bins located outside libraries.
Clare Taylorson, the council's waste prevention manager, highlighted the rising costs associated with Halloween festivities and emphasized the importance of finding cost-effective solutions. The swap shop is open to all types of costumes, not just traditional spooky ones, and will be available at libraries in Halewood, Stockbridge Village, Prescot, and Huyton during the half-term.
