Kolkata Knight Riders Eye Stake in New Franchise for The Hundred
Kolkata Knight Riders, a team in the Indian Premier League, have expressed interest in acquiring a stake in a new franchise for The Hundred, contingent on the tournament's expansion to ten teams.
The Knight Riders Group previously participated in the bidding for franchises during an auction held by the England and Wales Cricket Board, where they aimed for a stake in Trent Rockets. However, they withdrew their interest due to concerns over the franchise's valuation.
Should The Hundred increase its number of franchises, KRG's involvement could provide the ECB with a significant bidder linked to the IPL. Potential new franchise locations include Durham and a team in the south west of England. While expansion is not expected before 2029, it could enhance the value of future media rights deals.
