Busch's last Cup win, which was also his 63rd in the series, occurred after he led 123 of the 243 laps. He started from pole position, marking his first pole with Richard Childress Racing. Despite facing multiple restarts and a red flag, he maintained his lead to secure the victory.

In addition to his Cup win, Busch also celebrated a previous victory at Gateway during the 2009 NASCAR O'Reilly race, where he led a significant portion of the race. His achievements at the track contribute to his record of 234 career wins across all NASCAR divisions.
