Kyle Kirkwood Claims Victory at IndyCar Freedom 250

Kyle Kirkwood achieved a commanding victory at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix held in Washington, DC, marking his second win of the 2026 IndyCar season. Starting from second position in the #27 Andretti Global Honda, Kirkwood led 128 out of 147 laps, finishing 3.0906 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Despite a poor start, Kirkwood quickly overtook polesitter Alex Palou, who struggled throughout the race due to a penalty, a slow pit stop, and a late crash that left him finishing in 20th place. Will Power secured third place, contributing to a strong showing for Andretti Global with two cars on the podium.

The race, part of the celebration for America's 250th anniversary, saw President Donald Trump wave the green flag to start the event. Kirkwood's victory significantly narrowed the points gap to championship leader Palou, reducing it from 133 to 91 points with three races remaining in the season.
