Kyle Shanahan Discusses Car Accident and Autopilot Use

Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, spoke about his recent car accident for the first time on Saturday, indicating he is nearly fully recovered and intends to coach in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans.

The accident, which took place on July 14, resulted in multiple injuries for Shanahan, including a concussion, three broken ribs, and a broken left hand. He has adjusted his coaching responsibilities while he recuperates.

During the discussion, Shanahan explained that he was using the autopilot feature of his Tesla Model S when the accident occurred, which happened after he dropped his phone. He expressed uncertainty about whether the crash was due to a malfunction or if he accidentally disabled the autopilot while retrieving his phone. Shanahan emphasized the importance of maintaining attention while driving, regardless of the technology in use.
