Kyle Tayler-Woolston Embraces Support in Newport Rugby
Kyle Tayler-Woolston, a rugby player for Newport in Super Rygbi Cymru, is set to continue his career with the team, now using his married name after a summer wedding. The flanker, who has been open about his sexuality since 2018, received strong support from his teammates and coaches.
Newport celebrated Tayler-Woolston's wedding, which was the first same-sex blessing at St Basil's Church in Bassaleg, with a social media post. He expressed gratitude for the acceptance he has experienced, stating that he hopes to inspire younger players who may lack role models.
Having grown up watching Newport play, Tayler-Woolston faced challenges in coming out, fearing rejection based on his sexuality. However, he found encouragement from his head coach, Ty Morris, who assured him that his performance would be the only factor in team selection. Tayler-Woolston has since become a key player for Newport, achieving significant milestones while being open about his identity.
