Pirelli has identified La Monumental, the banked Turn 12 at the new Formula 1 circuit in Madrid, as a significant challenge for tyre performance due to its unique design. The corner features a 13.5-degree banking, which subjects tyres to sustained loads for 5.5 seconds, more than in other corners like Zandvoort.

Before the race weekend, discussions in the paddock focused on safety concerns and whether the track would be detrimental to car performance. Pirelli's chief engineer, Simone Berra, confirmed that initial data aligns with their pre-race simulations, indicating no immediate safety issues.

Additionally, the complexity of La Monumental has led to varied team strategies regarding throttle usage. Some teams anticipated needing to lift off the throttle, while others expected to maintain full throttle.
