Lachlan Morton Breaks Pony Express Record by Nearly 20 Hours
Lachlan Morton successfully completed a 3,217km journey across the western United States, finishing his ride in Sacramento at 11:19 p.m. after six days, 21 hours, and 15 minutes. This achievement allowed him to beat the Pony Express record by nearly 20 hours.
Morton began his ride on October 5 from St. Joseph, Missouri, and faced various challenges, including headwinds in Wyoming and cold conditions in the Sierra Nevada. Unlike the original Pony Express riders who used around 197 horses, Morton relied on a support crew and multiple bikes.
During his adventure, Morton reflected on the historical significance of the Pony Express, noting the difficulties faced by riders 160 years ago. He described the last day of his journey as particularly challenging, navigating technical sections and adverse weather conditions. Upon his arrival, friends and family welcomed him in Sacramento.
