Lakers Face Defensive Challenges with Walker Kessler's Injury Concerns

The Los Angeles Lakers made a significant investment to acquire Walker Kessler this offseason, appointing him as their starting center. This move places considerable expectations on the 25-year-old, particularly regarding his defensive capabilities alongside teammates Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Despite being recognized as an effective rim protector, Kessler's durability is a concern. His rookie season saw him play 74 games, but he has since struggled with injuries, participating in only 127 of 246 games over the following three seasons. Last season, he played just five games.

If Kessler were to be sidelined, the Lakers would rely on a center rotation that includes Sandro Mamukelashvili and Kevon Looney, the latter of whom has his own injury issues. The team is banking on Kessler to enhance their defense, but his injury-prone status raises the risk of a significant decline in defensive performance.
