Lance Stroll Receives 40-Place Penalty for Spanish Grand Prix

Lance Stroll has been assigned a 40-place grid penalty for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix after Aston Martin made changes to his power unit, exceeding the allowed number of components.

The modifications, which occurred before the final practice session, included a fifth internal-combustion engine, fifth turbocharger, sixth energy store, fifth MGU-K, and seventh power unit. Each additional engine and turbocharger incurs a 10-place penalty, while the energy store and MGU-K add five places each, resulting in a total penalty that exceeds the grid.

Stroll did not set a qualifying time and is not listed in the provisional classification, meaning he must obtain permission from the stewards to participate in the race. If granted, he will start from the back of the grid, with his exact position dependent on the final grid and any other penalties. His teammate, Fernando Alonso, qualified 18th after being eliminated in Q1, complicating the team's position further.
