Lando Norris Claims Pole Position at Spanish Grand Prix

Lando Norris secured pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, narrowly defeating Kimi Antonelli at the Madring track. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff initially believed Antonelli had achieved pole after he improved his time to 1m31.835s, leading by a margin of 0.178s over his competitors.

Norris, who had a slower first lap time of 1m32.525s, managed to take the top spot with a final lap of 1m31.824s, despite experiencing difficulties in the last corner, as noted by McLaren team principal Andrea Stella. Wolff expressed surprise at the shift in performance, as McLaren had been slower than Mercedes in earlier sessions.

Wolff acknowledged the importance of the race strategy, emphasizing the need to avoid crashes and maintain points against competitors like Lewis Hamilton, who trails Antonelli in the drivers' standings. He highlighted the goal of finishing on the podium while staying ahead of Hamilton.
