Lando Norris Claims Surprise Pole Position at Spanish Grand Prix
Lando Norris achieved an unexpected pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix, edging out Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011 seconds. McLaren's team principal, Andrea Stella, expressed his excitement over Norris's performance, especially given the team's struggles throughout the weekend.
During qualifying, Norris initially placed sixth and was 0.446 seconds behind the leader, Lewis Hamilton. However, he improved his time significantly on his second attempt, despite making a mistake in the final corner that cost him time. Norris later reflected on the close call, noting he thought he might crash.
Stella highlighted the lap as one of the most impressive he had witnessed, emphasizing the precision required to execute such a performance. He acknowledged that Norris's error was a result of pushing the limits, which led to losing three tenths of a second in the final sector. Despite this, the lap showcased Norris's skill and determination.
