Lando Norris Emerges as a Contender for the 2026 F1 Title
Lando Norris has become a surprising contender for the 2026 Formula 1 championship following two recent races. McLaren's team principal, Andrea Stella, noted that Norris has demonstrated remarkable growth since becoming the reigning champion.
Before the Hungarian Grand Prix, McLaren faced challenges in defending their title, with Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri lagging behind Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli in points. However, after implementing a major upgrade package at the Hungaroring, Norris secured victory from pole position and followed it up with another win in Zandvoort, narrowing the points gap to the championship leader.
Stella emphasized that Norris is not only benefiting from the car upgrades but is also performing at a high level, showcasing improved racecraft and assertiveness. His qualifying performance has notably improved, with Norris winning 12 out of the last 13 qualifying sessions against Piastri. This enhanced confidence and strategic approach have contributed to his recent successes on the track.
