Lando Norris Faces Potential Penalty After Collision with Oscar Piastri at Singapore GP Sprint
Lando Norris of McLaren is at risk of receiving a penalty after colliding with his teammate Oscar Piastri during the Singapore Grand Prix sprint. The incident occurred on the final lap of the 20-lap race, which took place under mixed conditions.
Norris attempted to overtake Piastri at Turn 5 but misjudged the gap, resulting in contact that damaged Piastri's car and caused both vehicles to spin. Norris finished the race in eighth place, but he may lose this position if the FIA stewards impose a penalty. He finished eight seconds ahead of Pierre Gasly, meaning a 10-second penalty could allow Gasly to claim the final point.
While Norris expressed his belief that he had the right to attempt the maneuver, Piastri noted that he did not see Norris at the apex of the turn. McLaren is also under pressure to repair Piastri's car, which requires a new gearbox, ahead of the upcoming qualifying session.
