Lando Norris Shows Interest in Racing in India Amid Formula 1 Revival Efforts
Lando Norris, the reigning Formula 1 world champion, has expressed a keen interest in competing in India as the country seeks to bring back the prestigious racing event. The Indian government has established a task force to explore the revival of Formula 1, which was discontinued after three races from 2011 to 2013 due to taxation and financial challenges.
The Adani Group, which now owns the Buddh Circuit in Greater Noida, has engaged in discussions with Formula One Management regarding the potential for hosting the event. However, the likelihood of a race occurring in the near future remains uncertain. Norris, who acknowledged India's significant fan base of approximately 98 million, shared his enthusiasm for racing on the track, having previously experienced it through simulation.
Although Norris has never visited India, he has a close friendship with Jehan Daruvala, an Indian driver who raced alongside him in junior formulas. Norris noted the passion for sports in India, particularly for Formula 1 and cricket, and expressed hope for the event's return, emphasizing the need for substantial investment to address hosting fees and renovations required for the circuit.
