Lando Norris to Test McLaren's MCL-HY Hypercar at Portimao

Lando Norris is set to travel to Portimao to test McLaren's MCL-HY Hypercar, as reported by journalist Phillip Horton. This prototype is part of McLaren's preparations for their return to the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027.

The specific test schedule and mileage for Norris have not been disclosed. This will mark his first experience with a vehicle designed for shared driving duties, which is intended to remain functional beyond the Grand Prix events.

The MCL-HY, which began its track program in May, adheres to ACO and IMSA LMDh regulations and features a carbon-fiber chassis along with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine and hybrid system, generating around 697 horsepower. The car's orange livery pays homage to the McLaren M6A, which achieved success in the 1967 Can-Am season. Norris is familiar with Portimao, having driven there previously in Formula 1. His upcoming test is part of a significant development program for McLaren, which won Le Mans in 1995 with the F1 GTR.
