Lane Johnson Indicates Possible Retirement After 2026 NFL Season
Lane Johnson, the right tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, indicated on Saturday that he is likely to retire after the 2026 NFL season. This announcement hints at a farewell for a player who has had a significant career.
At 36 years old, Johnson has been the Eagles' starting right tackle since being drafted fourth overall in 2013. He gained recognition as one of the league's top players in 2017, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors. Over his career, he has been selected for five additional Pro Bowls and four more All-Pro teams, contributing to the Eagles' three Super Bowl appearances.
Despite facing numerous injuries, Johnson has maintained a high level of performance, although he has only completed a full season twice. Last season, he missed the final seven games due to a foot injury, which left him dissatisfied with how his career might conclude. Although he considered retirement this offseason, he confirmed his return for a 14th season. Johnson has expressed a desire to spend more time with his family, which may influence his decision regarding a potential 15th season.
