Lane Johnson Indicates Possible Retirement After 2026 Season

Lane Johnson, a veteran offensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles, has indicated that he may retire after the 2026 NFL season. This announcement comes after more than a decade of playing in the league, during which he has won two Super Bowls and earned six Pro Bowl selections.

At 36 years old, Johnson expressed that family priorities are increasingly influencing his decision to continue playing. He noted that the realization of missing time with his family has become difficult to ignore, especially with his oldest child approaching 13 years old. Johnson mentioned that he has been contemplating retirement since last year and has had numerous discussions with his family about it.

Despite these considerations, Johnson feels capable of performing at a high level and aims to make the most of what he anticipates will be his final season. He recently returned to training camp after a brief absence due to personal matters related to his mother's health. The Eagles had previously restructured his contract, extending it through the 2027 season, which he had considered before deciding to sign the extension.
