Lavrov Responds to Accusations of Russian Involvement in Leipzig Drone Incident
On September 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed accusations from the West regarding Russia's involvement in a drone incident at Leipzig airport in Germany. He claimed these allegations represent the onset of a serious conflict.
Lavrov specifically referenced comments made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz about Germany's military ambitions, suggesting they indicate a declaration of war against Russia. The German government had previously stated on September 1 that it believed Russia was behind an attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport and announced measures in response, including the closure of a Russian consulate and cultural center in Berlin.
In response to the accusations, Russia rejected the claims as unfounded and accused Germany of fabricating evidence to implicate Moscow in the incident.
