Lawrence Dallaglio's 2003 World Cup Medal Fetches £54,000 at Auction
Lawrence Dallaglio, the former captain of the England rugby team, has sold his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal for £54,000 at auction.
The sale took place as part of a larger auction of items from Dallaglio's career, which included various medals, trophies, and caps, following his declaration of bankruptcy. Other notable sales included a British and Irish Lions cap for £11,000, an England cap for £8,000, and a Six Nations Championship winner's medal for £7,500.
Despite the successful sales, several items, including Dallaglio's four Premiership title medals with Wasps, did not find buyers. The total raised from the auction at Budd's in Northamptonshire was £100,500, while the collection was estimated to be worth £180,000. Dallaglio has publicly discussed the financial difficulties he faced, attributing them to personal circumstances, including his divorce.
