Leandro Paredes Receives 10-Game Ban Following World Cup Final Incident
Leandro Paredes has been suspended for 10 games following a confrontation with Spain's Gavi after Argentina's loss in the World Cup final. The incident occurred in New York/New Jersey, where Paredes was shown a red card for violent conduct after grabbing Eric Garcia and pushing Gavi.
In addition to Paredes' suspension, his teammates Nahuel Molina and Thiago Almada received bans of seven and one game, respectively. Argentina's coach Roberto Ayala also faces a one-game suspension for attempting to punch a Spain player.
Argentina has been fined £235,647 for displaying a political banner referencing the Falklands during their semi-final celebration against England. FIFA's ruling includes a requirement for Argentina to allocate $100,000 of the fine to anti-discrimination campaigns, with another $100,000 suspended. Furthermore, the team must limit attendance to 50 percent for their next two home matches.
