Leandro Paredes Receives 10-Match Ban Following World Cup Final Incidents
Leandro Paredes, an Argentina midfielder, has been suspended for 10 matches due to his involvement in altercations following Argentina's 1-0 loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.
Fifa's disciplinary committee also imposed a seven-match ban on Paredes' teammate Nahuel Molina. Additionally, Argentina is required to play their next two home matches at half capacity, with one match of this penalty suspended. The Argentinian Football Association has been fined $321,000 for various breaches of Fifa's disciplinary code, including team misconduct and discriminatory behavior from supporters.
Both Paredes and Molina will incur fines of $90,000 each. Spain's Gavi and Argentina's Thiago Almada will face one-match suspensions and fines for their roles in the post-match incidents. The match suspensions will apply only to international fixtures, reflecting Fifa's dissatisfaction with the conduct surrounding the World Cup final.
