Leanne Lucas Expresses Distress Over Inappropriate Access to Medical Records
Leanne Lucas, a yoga teacher injured in the Southport knife attack, has expressed feelings of violation due to NHS staff allegedly accessing her medical records without authorization. The incident occurred on July 29, 2024, during a children's dance class, resulting in the deaths of three young girls and injuries to Lucas and others.
Following the attack, it was revealed that nearly 50 staff members at the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group had improperly viewed victims' medical files. Recently, two additional staff members are under investigation for similar breaches, identified through a retrospective audit by Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
Lucas's legal representatives have requested an audit after the initial breaches were reported. Her solicitor highlighted the ongoing violations of privacy and trust, emphasizing the need for urgent systemic changes. The Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has acknowledged the situation and is conducting an investigation, with affected staff placed on precautionary suspension.
