Leonardo Escorpioni Joins HMD Motorsports for 2027 Indy NXT Season
HMD Motorsports has announced the signing of 16-year-old Brazilian-American driver Leonardo Escorpioni for its 2027 Indy NXT by Firestone lineup. This decision follows Escorpioni's notable performance as the vice-champion in the 2026 USF Pro 2000 Championship.
Escorpioni previously served as the team's Junior Driver during the 2026 season, gaining valuable experience and familiarity with the team. His rise in the racing ranks has been marked by a strong rookie season, where he led the championship standings for a significant period before facing visa issues that affected his title bid.
Having begun his open-wheel career in early 2024, Escorpioni quickly progressed through the ranks, winning the USF Juniors championship and making appearances in USF2000. He recently completed his first laps in Indy NXT cars during the Driver Evaluation Test and is set to continue preparations with HMD Motorsports ahead of the upcoming season.
